'The Trashcan Collective' were formed in 2009 by double bassist Bruce Reid to perform and record his jazz compositions. Based in the North of England the band members all work with each other regularly in various other jazz groups and have recently come together to form 'The Trashcan Collective'. The familiarity and understanding brought about by playing together regularly creates a great vibe and chemistry between the musicians. Influenced by the American standards and great jazz composers such as Monk and Mingus, the tunes are melodic, built on strong harmonic progressions and manage to strike the balance of having a wide ranging appeal whilst still sounding original.

The Trashcan Collective core members are: Dan Berry - Tenor saxophone, Nick Fletcher - Piano/rhodes, Bruce Reid - Double bass, Martin Davies - Drums and Brian Acton - Vocals, guitar and Kaos.

“Impressively melodic take on contemporary jazz. The Collective are a very assured quartet playing the kind-of Monkish tunes of bassist Bruce Reid.”

The Jazz Rag, Spring 2010.

“This formidable quintet's Myspace profile reads 'melodic jazz with a bit of dirt', which perfectly summarises their tight punchy sound. A must-download.”

The Musician, Summer Edition, 2010.

“Pure musical bliss..this is a band who could seriously swing and who are a testament to the compositional skills of Bruce Reid...musical magic.”

Ribble Valley Jazz Club live review by Paul Ellis, 2010.
